UWHA: I became my own muse

UWHA: I became my own muse is an exhibition offering an alternative conversation to the popularised mythical narratives of wāhine Maori. Set in a modern construct, the artist works with the concept of deconstruction to allow a living contemporary expression of the Māori female experience. A multi-media experience consisting of poetry, film, and photography, UWHA: I became my own muse, is an amalgamation of building materials.

All photography, moving imagery, poetry and installation design was created by the Artist, Tipare.

UWHA: I became my own muse premiered as part of the Auckland City Councils ‘Matariki Festival 2017’ and sat inside the all female curation at Studio One/Toi Tu in Ponsonby.
