Label Makers

‘Label Makers’ explores life in Auckland during the height of the pandemic. Obsession with internet communication, post colonial activism, the Black Lives Matter movement, pakeha occupation of Māori sites, alongside timeless Māori whenua (land) perspectives and emotional states. The series traverses the contradictions and complexities presented during a heightened state of fear and confrontation. An eclectic statement of acrylic on wood paintings, laced with label tape representing the imposition of thought over emotion, ‘Label Makers’ tackles over analysation vs actual social progression.

‘Label Makers’ appeared at Studio One in Ponsonby during the prestigious Auckland Arts Festival alongside the important historical Dawn Raids exhibition that highlighted the mistreatment of Pasifika Peoples during the 1970’s.
