Saline, an interlude, 2018 Short film (10min 4 sec) and vinyl
An ode to Māori ocean goddess Hinemoana and the healing power of tears. Written, directed, filmed, and edited by Tīpare the work represents the curative powers and connectivity salt water brings us. On request, friends of the artist contributed their interpretations of healing via song, spoken work, waiata, and karakia. Maile Flores of Hawai'i, Janoc Vance and L of Los Angeles, along with Gia Hinemaea Ngātai-Smith offerings act as wavelengths connecting through the Pacific Ocena, while landing us firmly in Aotearoa. The wonderful voices of Annesther Davis and the Faces of Faith Choir, Lemao and Malia Tauali'i, Kereama Wright, and Te Rangimoaho Iti embody the unique spirit of history and compassion to the piece.
